Many Jews and even certain Gentiles, who shared their hope, recognised in Jesus the fundamental attributes of the messianic Son of David promised by God to Israel . Jesus accepted his rightful title of Messiah though with some reserve because it was understood by some of his contemporaries in too human a sense; as essentially political. (CCC439)

After Jesus has healed the two blind men in Matthew chapter 9 he sternly charged them “see that no one knows it” since they loudly proclaimed that Jesus was the Messiah, Son of David. The time was not ripe for this to be broadcast.
